Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Passau, Germany (Embarkation)
Embarkation on the ship in Passau begins
at 4:00pm prior to setting sail at about 5:00pm heading east to
the beautiful German-Austrian border region of Engelhartszell.
Time is allowed for cruise passengers to settle into their cabins
before the introduction of the crew. That is followed by a
cocktail reception and dinner on board. The ship sails through
the evening hours.
Day 2: Melk, Austria - Vienna
Arrive in Melk at approximately 5:00am.
After breakfast, an optional tour is
offered to the beautiful Melk Abbey. This symbol of Austrian
baroque art at its finest is located on a hillside overlooking the
Danube River. Return on board in time for an 11:00am ship
departure heading for the medieval town of Durnstein. Durnstein is
noted for its beautiful baroque- style church. It is also the most
popular town in the Wachau region. We arrive there at about 12:30pm. After lunch on board the ship, free time is allowed to explore the town on your own. Return to ship in time for departure at
3:30pm. Dinner is on board the ship prior to arrival in Vienna at
8:30pm. An optional tour in Vienna by night is offered and the ship overnights in Vienna.
Day 3: Vienna
After breakfast, an optional tour of the
Schonbrunn Castle & the city of Vienna
is offered. This castle was the summer residence of the imperial family
- Franz Joseph and Sissi.
Return on board the ship for lunch with the rest of the day free
for individual sightseeing. Back on board the ship for dinner
and the Captain's Dance Evening. The ship departs for a night
sailing east towards Budapest.
Day 4: Esztergom - Budapest, Hungary
Arrive in Esztergom, Hungary at 6:00am.
After breakfast, there is free time to explore this city which
was the original capital of Hungary. Esztergom is still quite
prominent and it is home to the Archbishop of Hungary. With
its neoclassical basilica and the old royal palace, Esztergom is a city rich in monuments. Departure of the ship is at
12:00noon. Lunch is on board with an arrival time in Budapest of
4:00pm. Also called the "Pearl of the Danube", Budapest
is the capital of Hungary. The rest of the day is free for individual sightseeing. Dinner is onboard the ship with
an optional visit of Budapest by night offered. Overnight in
Budapest.
Day 5: Budapest
The
full day will be spent in Budapest with optional guided tours of
the city offered. With its numerous buildings, Budapest is an
historical emblem. After dinner on board the ship, there is an optional evening entertainment for traditional dances in Budapest.
Overnight in Budapest.
Day 6: Budapest (Disembarkation)
After breakfast on board, disembarkation
will take place at approximately 8:00am.
