After individual travel to Passau embarkation takes place at 16.00 hrs. The ship then sets sail at 17.00 hrs. There is now an opportunity to explore the vessel as it sets course for Vienna, before joining the Cruise Director and team for a Welcome Cocktail. This is followed by the Welcome Dinner.
Day 2 - Friday: Vienna
We recommend that you spend this morning on deck as we cruise through the famous vineyards of the Wachau Valley. We arrive in Vienna around mid-day. Vienna is a city of music and joie de vivre, and its chocolate cake and new wine are as well-known as St. Stephen’s Cathedral or the Hofburg Palace. Our coach tour will take you to the most important sights of the city. Of course there is an opportunity to explore this beautiful city at your leisure before we set sail again during the evening en route for Budapest.
Day 3 - Saturday: Budapest
After passing through the region of the Danube Bend, dubbed the “Hungarian Wachau”, we experience the unforgettable approach to Budapest. After breakfast there is a coach tour to give you a full impression of the Hungarian capital and to see something of the imposing buildings on both banks of the Danube. Cruising, there is the chance to see the lights of the city by booking our tour of “Budapest by Night”. This tour includes a visit to a venue, where we have a typical Hungarian goulash and are entertained with traditional music. As soon as we have everyone back on board, we set sail again downstream to Kalocsa.
Day 4 - Sunday: Kalocsa
We arrive in Kalocsa in the early morning. This attractive small town on the Hungarian plain is famous for its traditional embroidery and for growing paprika. After breakfast there is an opportunity to join our tour (bookable only on board) into the Hungarian countryside – the Puszta. Since the ship stays in Kalocsa until evening there is also time to explore the town at your leisure or to take our afternoon trip (bookable only on board) to the village of Hajos, which was settled by emigrants from Southern Germany and is today famous for its wines. In the early evening we leave Kalocsa to cruise upstream back to Budapest.
Day 5 - Monday: Budapest/Esztergom
After a hearty breakfast on board there is the chance to stroll through the lively shopping streets of Budapest or to join an excursion to the city’s largest church, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and to Margaret’s Island (bookable only on board). After lunch we warmly recommend our excursion to the Danube Bend and the city of Esztergom. Those passengers remaining on board cruise through the Danube Bend to Esztergom, where the ship anchors for an hour to pick up those returning from the excursion, before setting sail for Bratislava.
Day 6 - Tuesday: Bratislava/Vienna
The ship ties up in Bratislava during the morning. Here we offer a guided walk plus a coach ride to the castle, visiting en route St. Martin’s Cathedral, where many of the Hungarian kings were crowned, and the very attractive Old Town. Around midday we set sail for Vienna, giving you an opportunity to enjoy the passing scenery before we arrive in Vienna during the evening. After dinner there is a chance either to attend a classical concert or join an excursion through the attractive vineyards of the Vienna Woods to sample the new wine at a traditional wine bar (bookable only on board). Around midnight the ship casts off on its voyage into the Wachau.
Day 7 - Wednesday: Wachau
Today we warmly invite you to join our „World Heritage Wachau“ tour. The tour starts in the village of Dürnstein and takes you through the legendary Wachau Valley to the 1000 year old Baroque abbey in Melk, where you can sample some of the region’s wines in the abbey cellars. We then rejoin the ship in Melk and, when all passengers are back on board, we set off on the final stage of our Danube cruise. The highlight of this final evening on board is the festive Captain’s Dinner.
Day 8 - Thursday: Disembark in Passau
We arrive back at our starting-point in Passau during the morning, in time to say farewell to the ship after breakfast. You will disembark from your ship with many happy memories as your individual onward journey commences.
