Departure very early in the morning for this optional day's excursion, lunch included (around 3 hour's travelling time) to reach this unmissable Christian Shrine. The lives of the saints recount that the body of Saint
Catherine was rescued by angels from the instrument of torture and carried to the slopes of the highest peak in Egypt, in the foothills of Mount Sinai (Djebel Musa), where the story goes that Moses saw God in the form of a burning bush and received the 10 Commandments. The tour will begin with the 6th century Church of the Transfiguration, covered with icons and mosaics, and will continue via the holiest place in the monastery: the Chapel of the Burning Bush. You will also see the icon gallery and Moses' well. After your buffet lunch, you will return to Sharm el-Sheikh at the end of the afternoon.
Or
Optional day's excursion between sea and shore (lunch included): under the sun in fact… departure for a private beach at Naama Bay, the capital of the Egyptian Riviera. In winter the outside temperature varies between 23 and 26 degrees. The chance to have a swim and laze around on the sand where beach loungers, towels and parasols will guarantee that you can relax in comfort. After your buffet lunch, a sea trip in a glass-bottomed boat: the ideal opportunity to discover the wonderful underwater world for which the Red Sea is renowned.
Departure of the boat at around midnight for Jordan. Dinner and Egyptian fancy dress evening on board: to make the most of this evening, don't forget to pack the accessories that will transform you into Nefertiti or the most imposing pharaoh for a day!
DAY 4: AQABA (Jordan)
Breakfast during the cruise. During the morning's sailing, you will be able to take advantage of the clement temperatures on the sun deck, as you admire the Sinai Peninsula in which the subsoil contained rich deposits of copper, gold and turquoise at the time of the pharaohs, but which is also the Holy Land and an important place of pilgrimage. As Exodus relates, during its flight from Egypt, the Hebrew people, led by Moses, wandered in the Sinai for 40 days before reaching the Promised Land. Arrival in Aqaba at the end of the morning, a famous Jordanian seaside resort which is undergoing considerable development. Lunch. In the afternoon, an optional excursion to the desert of Wadi Rum. With Petra, it is one of the must-see sites in Jordan. By Jeep, with numerous photo stops, you will discover this desert made famous by Lawrence of Arabia, which dazzles with its spectacular colours which vary with the whim of the light. The Bedouins who inhabit the Wadi Rum are famous for their hospitality: in their tent, enjoy their tea and sweet specialities. Back on board for the evening. Dinner on board. Overnight stopover.
DAY 5: AQABA (Jordan)
Breakfast on board. Departure for a day's optional excursion to Petra (lunch included), around 2 hours' drive from Aqaba. Petra is without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest wonders ever constructed by Man and Nature and the most precious jewel in Jordan's crown. A capital cut into the pink and red stone by the Nabataeans, an Arab people established in Jordan for more than 2,000 years, Petra, 'rock' in Greek, was strategically placed at the junction of the silk and spice trade routes. To enter the site, you take the 'siq', a narrow gorge a kilometre long, lined with steep cliffs which comes out on Al Khazneh, the 'Treasure': the tomb of a Nabataean, this imposing Hellenistic façade was cut into the pink rock itself at the beginning of the 1st century. It is a masterpiece of refinement and symmetry which alone is well worth the trip to Petra. You will also discover the Nabataean theatre in the Roman style carved into the rock more than 2,000 years ago. After your lunch in a restaurant, back on board in Aqaba, Captain's Evening, who will take great pleasure in opening this evening's dinner. Departure of the boat during the night for Safaga.
DAY 6: AT SEA
A day's sailing, full catering on board. Enjoy the clement temperatures on the sun deck, as you admire the Sinai Peninsula. At dusk, the rock takes on brown and reddish tints and transforms itself into a festival of colour. Arrival in Safaga in the evening. 1001 knights evening on board: succumb to the bewitching charm of the belly dance to the sound of traditional music.
DAY 7: SAFAGA (Egypt)
After a hearty breakfast at dawn, departure by coach for the day's optional excursion to ancient Thebes, the capital of the Pharaohs: LUXOR and the Valley of the Kings (lunch included). Travelling time: around 3h30 through a landscape of desert, mountains and fertile plains. This is one of the unmissable key sites of ancient Egypt. The tour will start in the Valley of the Kings. With its arid cliffs, the gorge which forms this valley evokes death. It is in this setting that the pharaohs awaited immortality in their sarcophagi. The 62 tombs carved into the mountain itself are not all open to the public but you will visit three of the most important of them, adorned with beautiful decorations. You will also see the Temple of Hatshepsut, dedicated to the only female Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. It seems as if nature itself has conjured up this extraordinary monument, the terraces of which mingle with the surrounding limestone cliffs of the mountain of Thebes. Further along, overlooking the west bank from their lofty 18 metres in height, the Colossi of Memnon, faceless effigies seated on a throne are the remains of the funeral temple of Amenophis III. After your lunch in a restaurant, tour of the temples of Karnak. Connected to Luxor by the alley of the ram-headed Sphinx, this grandiose site, dedicated to the God Amon, continued to grow for 1,500 years. At the centre of this site, as colossal as it is dizzying, rise the outer walls of the Temple of Amon which contains a sacred lake. An important place of religious celebration, it contains the famous hypostyle room, a spectacular forest of gigantic columns. Its beauty is simply breathtaking. Before returning to the boat in Safaga, a photo stop at the Temple of Luxor will enable you to immortalise its majesty. Dinner on board in Safaga. Overnight stopover.
