Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1 (Saturday): Amsterdam (Embarkation)
Welcome onboard. Embarkation on the Royal Crown in Amsterdam at 15.00 hours. Afterwards you may take some time to settle in your suite or cabin. Alternatively take an individual stroll through Amsterdam or a boat trip through the canals, visit a diamond factory or the world famous Anne Frank’s Museum. This evening, enjoy a welcome cocktail with your Captain before dinner onboard.
Day 2 (Sunday): Excursion to the Bulb fields
In the morning you may join an excursion to the Keukenhof. After breakfast the touring car will depart to Lisse where you will experience the springtime magic in the Bollenstreek (bulb region).
The Keukenhof is situated between Amsterdam and The Hague in the Bulb region and is covering an area of about 70 acres, these National Flower Exhibition Grounds present a bewilderingly beautiful horticultural firework involving no less than 7 billions bulbs. Although every type of bulb flower is well-represented, it is the extraordinary range (about 700 varieties) of tulips that makes your visit into an absolutely unforgettable experience. In addition to the breathtaking outdoor plantings, there are also enormous greenhouses, a pavilion providing a comprehensive introduction to the art of bulb-growing, and smaller formal gardens with fountains, and an old windmill. The castle at the heart of the park goes back to the 17th century, but was almost completely rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style about 150 years ago.
Lunch will be served onboard. After lunch you may enjoy your free afternoon in Amsterdam. With over 7000 classified buildings and a generous crop of ‘must see’ museums, it’s probably best to take the strain out of matters by accepting that ‘seeing everything’ is simply impossible. The onboard Tour Manager will assist you with selecting a few highlights while leaving plenty of time for some aimless walking to get a feel for the city’s quite baffling diversity.
Day 3 (Monday): Schoonhoven - Kinderdijk - Rotterdam
This morning the Royal Crown sets sails to arrive early in Schoonhoven, located at the confluence of the rivers Lek (Rhine) and Vlist, Schoonhoven has long enjoyed the nickname of Holland’s ‘Silver City’.
In the morning you may join us for the Schoonhoven & Gouda excursion.
The "Silver Walk" will allow you to acquaint yourself with Schoonhoven’s silver and takes you along the most important places of interest and monuments of the town.
Afterwards continue to Gouda which is "the" cheese city of the Netherlands. But that isn’t all; Gouda is off course also known for its history! Walk along through the old and monumental Gouda, where we will find the weekly Cheese Market around the impressive and age-old town hall of Gouda.
A culinary lunch onboard the Royal Crown and a beautiful sailing to Kinderdijk is awaiting you. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Dutch countryside while cruising to the undisputed ‘windmill capital’ of Holland, Kinderdijk. A small village just a few miles south of Rotterdam. Here, the 19 Historic mills – all of which are still in good working order – were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. On an excursion you will learn about the Dutch battle against the water, followed by a guided tour through the park where you can take a look inside a fully working windmill, preserved in its original form.
Day 4 (Tuesday): Rotterdam
After a relaxing cruise in the late afternoon, the Royal Crown arrives into the vibrant city of Rotterdam. The impressive skyline can be seen from far, enhancing the city’s imposing appearance. Rotterdam is an important commercial center since the 12th century. Every year, some 32,000 freight ships sail into Europe via this port of entry, which is also the world's largest harbor. The Royal Crown will overnight in Rotterdam, the next morning you will have the opportunity to explorer Rotterdam.
Day 5 (Wednesday): Antwerp
This morning the Royal Crown will dock in Antwerp, the largest city in Flanders. Besides the many historical buildings that are reminiscent of the city's heyday in the 16th century, Antwerp boasts a lively shopping and entertainment scene as well as many cultural attractions. The city is also known for its diamonds, fashion and Flemish artists such as Rubens and van Dyck, of whom many works can be admired in the local museums. Today you'll take a city tour by bus and a guided city walking tour to discover the world's leading diamond city.
Day 6 (Thursday): Dordrecht
After cruising along the special Belgium and Dutch waterways the Royal Crown arrives in Dordrecht. From Dordrecht you may join an excursion to the city of Delft. Delft is a beautiful preserved medieval canal city; where the famous painter Johannes Vermeer was born. During a walking tour take a look at the leaning tower of the Oude Kerk, discover the Gemeenlandshuis of Delfland (1520) with a beautiful front and the almost hidden Bagijnhof. Discover the history of Delft and the Netherlands while visiting the Prinsenhof where Willem van Oranje, the National Father, was killed by Balthasar Gerards in 1584. Finally you will visit the Nieuwe Kerk where the marble tomb of Willem van Oranje is located and where Johannes Vermeer was buried.
After lunch The Royal Crown continues its journey to Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. You can walk to The Grote Markt which is the best place to start a tour of Nijmegen.
Day 7 (Friday): Floriade
Be part of the theatre in nature and join the excursion to the World Horticultural Expo in Venlo. A theatre that you experience intensely, because you don’t just look at it, but you also act yourself and play a leading role together with nature. A theatre in which you learn about nature and from nature, which makes you realize that flowers, plants, trees, vegetables and fruits are important in our daily life. Listen to the most beautiful music, soar over the park in the largest cable car of the Netherlands and enjoy the occasional quiet moment.
