Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Beijing (China)
Arrive in Beijing and be greeted by a cruise representative who will escort you to the hotel.
Day 2: Beijing (China)
Featured Excursions: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and Peking Duck dinner
Start your day in Tiananmen Square—the heart of Beijing—before visiting the Forbidden City, the largest and most complete ancient imperial palace in the world. Then continue on to the Summer Palace. Top off your fabulous day with an authentic Peking Duck feast. (BB, L, D)
Day 3: Beijing (China)
Featured Excursions: The Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, and Kung Fu show
Visit the sites of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and then walk along China’s Great Wall—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and truly one of the manmade wonders of the world. On your way back to Beijing, travel the Sacred Way, home to the remnants of the Ming Tombs. End your day with an exhilarating Kung Fu show featuring some of China’s best martial artists. (BB, L, D)
Day 4: Beijing (China), fly to Xi'an
Featured Excursions: Hutongs tour with home-hosted lunch and dumpling dinner
Ride in a rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Hutongs—the ancient lanes and alleyways of the old residential area of Beijing—and enjoy lunch with a local family. Then fly to Xi’an, where you’ll check into the hotel before indulging in a delicious dumpling dinner. (BB, L, D)
Day 5: Xi'an (China)
Featured Excursions: Terra Cotta Warriors, City Wall, and Tang Dynasty dinner and performance
Xi’an is the site of one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century—the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses—which you’ll visit today along with Xi’an’s ancient City Wall. In the evening, partake in a Tang Dynasty dinner and cultural performance. (BB, L, D)
Day 6: Xi'an (China), fly to Chongqing (Embarkation), cruising the Yangtze River
Featured Excursions: Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Chongqing Zoo giant panda visit
Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, an ancient holy place for Buddhists. Then fly to Chongqing, where you’ll stop for a glimpse of the giant pandas at the city zoo before boarding an elegant Victoria Cruises ship to begin your journey down the awe-inspiring Yangtze. (BB, L, D)
Day 7: Cruising the Yangtze River
Featured Excursion: Fengdu, or Wanzhou, or Shibaozhai
Sail the Yangtze’s breathtaking Three Gorges. Then visit either the “Ghost City” of Fengdu or the new relocation village for families who have moved as a result of the Three Gorges Dam. An excursion to the port cities of Wanzhou or Shibaozhai may be substituted due to river conditions. (BB, L, Captain’s Welcome Reception, D)
Day 8: Cruising the Yangtze River
Featured Excursion: Lesser Gorges
Cruise the enchanting Lesser Gorges of either the beautiful and peaceful Daning River or Shennong Stream. Then sail through the amazing Three Gorges Dam ship locks. (BB, L, Captain’s Farewell Dinner)
Day 9: Yichang (Disembarkation), fly to Shanghai
Featured Excursion: Three Gorges Dam
Visit the site of the Three Gorges Dam before disembarking in Yichang. Fly to Shanghai and enjoy a delicious buffet dinner at your hotel. (BB, L, D)
Day 10: Shanghai (China)
Featured Excursions: Shanghai city tour and Shanghai Acrobats performance
Visit Old Town, the Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and Old Shanghai Museum on your panoramic tour. Enjoy a dim sum lunch and an evening performance by the incredible Shanghai Acrobats. (BB, L, D)
Day 11: Depart Shanghai
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home, or continue your tour with one of our popular optional extensions. (CB or BB)
