Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Cairo

Arrive at airport where you'll be welcomed and transferred to the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza (or similar; subject to change).

Day 2: Cairo

Featured Excursion: Citadel of Salah al-Din, Mosque of Muhammad Ali, Egyptian Museum, and Khan el-Khalili Bazaar

Begin today’s tour of this historic city with a visit to the Citadel of Salah al-Din for breathtaking views of Cairo. Salah al-Din built the Citadel in the 12th century to defend Cairo from the armies of the Crusaders and to become the center of his government. Muhammad Ali Pasha restored the walls of the Citadel and built numerous palaces, schools, and government buildings in the 19th century. His masterpiece was the great mosque, which you’ll see next. You’ll also have time to visit the famous Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, where you can put your bargaining skills to the test. In the afternoon, spend time at the Egyptian Museum, an unrivaled warehouse of Pharaonic treasures. The museum exhibits over 120,000 objects, including the remarkable artifacts recovered by archeologist Howard Carter from the tomb of King Tutankhamun. (BB)

Day 3: Cairo

Featured Excursion: The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx

Drive out to Memphis to admire the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. Nearby at Sakkara, view the Step Pyramid of Zoser I; dating from the 27th century BC, it is the oldest in the world. You’ll then enjoy a guided tour of Giza, where you will see the enigmatic Sphinx and the magnificent Pyramids. You’ll also get to visit the inside of a smaller pyramid. (BB)

Day 4: Cairo - Fly to Aswan (Embarkation)

Fly from Cairo to Aswan where you’ll embark on your Lake Nasser cruise on board the Prince Abbas. (BB, L, D)

Day 5: Aswan, cruising Lake Nasser, Kalabsha

Featured Excursion: Kalabsha Temple

Visit Kalabsha Temple, the largest preserved temple in Nubia. Relax on board for a full-day cruise on Lake Nasser as we travel to Wadi El Seboua. (BB, L, D)

Day 6: Wadi El Seboua, cruising Lake Nasser, Amada

Featured Excursion: Wadi El Seboua, Dakka, and Amada Temple

In the morning, enjoy time at Wadi El Seboua, the “Valley of the Lionesses,” named after the great Avenue of Sphinxes that led to the Temple of Ramses II. In the afternoon, cruise to Amada to see these temples. (BB, L, D)

Day 7: Amada, Kasr Ibrim, Abu Simbel

Featured Excursion: Temples of Abu Simbel, evening Sound and Light show

Explore the great temples of Abu Simbel. Built by Ramses II, this temple complex was designed to impress, and it still serves that purpose today. Spend time exploring inside the 3,200-year-old walls, which depict scenes of Ramses and the gods. During the evening, experience the monuments lit in all their glory at the Sound and Light show. (BB, L, D)

Day 8: Abu Simbel (Disembarkation) - fly to Aswan (Embarkation)

Featured Excursion: Aswan High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, Philae Temple, and Nubian show onboard

In the morning, we’ll fly to Aswan, where the Middle East overlaps with Africa. On arrival, visit the Aswan High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, and Philae Temple. During the afternoon, you’ll board the ultra-luxurious River Tosca to sail along the Nile. Later in the evening, be treated to a typical Nubian show onboard. (BB, L, D)

Day 9: Aswan, cruising the Nile, Kom Ombo, Edfu

Featured Excursion: Kom Ombo Temple, and Egyptian dinner and Galabeya party onboard the ship

We sail to Kom Ombo. Upon arrival, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, the only temple in Egypt dedicated to two gods. Tonight, don your Galabeya (traditional Egyptian attire) for a fun-filled Egyptian dinner and Galabeya party, including typical Egyptian music and activities. (BB, L, D)

Day 10: Edfu, cruising the Nile, Luxor

Featured Excursion: Edfu and Luxor Temples

In the morning, spend time at the Temple of Edfu, the best-preserved major temple in Egypt. The temple is dedicated to the Falcon god Horus and was built over a 180-year period. Upon arrival in Luxor, you’ll encounter its temple. Luxor Temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt. (BB, L, D)

Day 11: Luxor (Disembarkation) - fly to Cairo

Featured Excursion: Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the Valley of the Kings, the Colossi of Memnon, and Temple of Karnak

In the morning, visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings, the burial place of many New Kingdom Pharaohs. You’ll also visit the towering Colossi of Memnon. These two giant seated figures are all that is left of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. Among the many splendors of Karnak Temple is the Hypostyle Hall, the largest of any temple in the world, with its roof blocks supported by colossal columns 70 feet high. Fly back to Cairo later in the day and check into the Marriott Hotel. (BB)

Day 12: Depart Cairo

Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home. (BB)

Please Note:

  • Please check visa requirements with your local consulate(s); responsibility for obtaining visas rests with the traveler.
  • As traffic conditions and water level of the Nile are not always predictable, slight changes to the day-to-day itinerary cannot be excluded.
