Detailed Itinerary: Strasbourg to Budapest (SBU)

Day 1: Strasbourg (Embarkation)

Embarkation between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Get settled in your cabin. This evening you will meet the crew during the welcome party. The boat departs at 8:00PM. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 2: Mainz - Frankfurt

Arrival in Mainz at 8:00 AM. Mainz sits at the confluence of the Rhine and Main Rivers. It features an thousand year old cathedral. You’ll have time to visit the town. At 11:00 AM we set sail for Frankfurt. After lunch there is an optional tour of Frankfurt with its mixture of ancient and modern architecture. Dinner on board.

Day 3: Miltenberg – Wertheim

We call at Miltenberg in the early morning. You’ll have time to explore on your own. The market place with the half timbered houses and the Hotel Reisen contribute to the pastoral atmosphere of Miltenberg. After lunch we depart for Wertheim. We’ll put in later in the afternoon and you’ll have time for exploring on your own. Dinner on board. We’ll put in for the night.

Day 4: Wertheim – Wurzburg – Kitzingen

The boat departs early in the morning. Enjoy breakfast as we cruise to Karlstadt. We’ll have lunch before we depart on an optional visit of Wurzburg, a stop on the famed “Romantic Road”. The rolling vineyards in the shadows of the imposing citadel are part of  Wurzburg’s charm. Embark in Wurzburg to continue sailing to Kitzingen. We’ll have dinner on board. This evening we’ll have entertainment on board.

Day 5: Kitzingen - Rothenburg - Bamberg

The boat will depart early in the morning for Volkach while we have breakfast. There is an optional excursion to Rothenberg, set on a hill with picturesque half timbered houses hidden behind the ancient ramparts. This is one of the most beautiful towns on the “Romantic Road”. Embark again in Schweifurt and continue cruising to Bamberg where we will have dinner on board and put in for the night.

Day 6: Bamberg - Nuremberg - Hilpostein

The boat departs in the early morning. Have breakfast while we cruise on the Rhine – Main – Danube Canal, opened in 1992. We cruise to Erlangen where we will have lunch. We will arrive in Nuremberg about 2:00PM.  There is an optional visit of the town where you will enjoy the the medieval market place, with its Gothic architecture. We’ll depart in the afternoon for Hilpolstein. Dinner on board.

Day 7: Hilpostein - Regensburg

The boat sails in the early morning hours. There is an optional visit of Regensberg, the fourth largest town in Bavaria. Despite the major companies headquartered here (BMW, Siemens and Triumph) the 2,000 year old historical center has maintained its charm. Lunch, dinner and overnight on board.

Day 8: Regensburg - Passau

We’ll have breakfast on board as the boat departs for Passau where we will arrive about 11:00 AM. You’ll have free time to visit Passau where you will visit on your own. The old romantic passages and Baroque will provide memories that will last a lifetime.  Return on board to depart at 5:00PM towards the Austrian boarder region of Engelhartszell.  There is a cocktail reception & dinner on board. The ship sails through the evening hours. 

Day 9:  Passau - Melk - Vienna

Arrive in Melk at approximately 5:00 AM. After breakfast, an optional tour  is offered to the beautiful Melk Abbey. This symbol of Austrian baroque art, at its finest,  is located on a hillside overlooking the Danube River. Return on board in time for an 11:00 AM ship departure heading for the medieval town of Durnstein.  There is an optional tour of Durnstein which is noted for its beautiful baroque- style church. It is also the most popular town in the Wachau region.The ship will depart at 3:30 PM. Dinner is on board the ship prior to arrival in Vienna at 8:30 PM. An optional tour is Vienna by night is offered & the ship overnights in Vienna.

Day 10: Vienna

After breakfast, an optional tour of the Schonbrunn Castle & the city of Vienna is available. This castle was the summer residence of the imperial  family - Franz Joseph & Sissi. Return on board the ship for lunch with the rest of the day free for individual sightseeing. Back on board the ship for dinner & the Captain's Dance Evening. The ship departs for a night sailing east towards Budapest.

Day 11 : Esztergom - Budapest

Arrive in Esztergom, Hungary at 6:00 AM. After breakfast, an optional tour is offered to this city which was the original capital of Hungary. Esztergom is still quite prominent and it is home  to the Archbishop of Hungary. With its neoclassical basilica & the old royal palace, Esztergom   is a city rich in monuments. Departure of the ship is at 12:00 Noon. Lunch is on board with an arrival time in Budapest of 4:00 PM. Also called the "Pearl of the Danube", Budapest is the capital of Hungary. The rest of the day is free for individual sightseeing. Dinner is onboard the ship with an optional visit of Budapest by night offered. Overnight in Budapest. 

Day 12: Budapest

The full day will be spent in Budapest with optional guided tours of the city offered. With its numerous buildings, Budapest is an historical emblem. After dinner on board the ship, there is an optional evening entertainment for traditional dances in Budapest. Overnight in Budapest. 

Day 13: Budapest (Disembarkation)

After breakfast on board, disembarkation will take place at approximately 8:00 AM.

Detailed Itinerary: Budapest to Strasbourg (BUS)

Day 1: Budapest (Embarkation)

Boarding in Budapest and settling into your cabin. Presentation of the crew. Welcome cocktail, dinner. Free evening or optional traditional evening in Budapest.

Day 2: Budapest

Breakfast on board. At 8.00 am, depart of the boat or optional guided tour of the city. Budapest, with its numerous edifices situated on each side of the river, is unspeakably rich in historic emblems. We will rejoin the boat in Esztergom for lunch. In the afternoon, freedom to visit Esztergom. First capital of Hungary. The neoclassical basilica and the ancient royal palace make Esztergom a city rich in monuments. Back on board for departure of the boat at 7.00 pm for Vienna. Dinner and an evening's entertainment on board.

Day 3: Budapest - Vienna

Breakfast on board. Arrival in Vienna around 2.00 pm. Lunch on board. Free time or optional excursion to the Hofburg (residence of the Hapsburgs). Dinner on board and free evening or optional tour of Vienna by night.

Day 4: Vienna

Breakfast on board. Optional guided tour of Schönbrunn Castle and part of the city. Vienna, an imperial city and cradle of music, comes alive around the Cathedral, the Opera, Schönbrunn Castle, summer residence of the imperial family. Back to the boat for lunch. Free afternoon. Explore this marvellous city at your own pace. Back to the boat for dinner. After dinner, the chance to attend a concert of Viennese music (optional and dependent on availability). Departure of the boat at midnight.

Day 5: Melk - Passau

Breakfast on board. Cruise up the most beautiful section of the Wachau. Arrival in Melk around 10.00 am. Departure by coach for the optional tour of the picturesque village of Durnstein. Durnstein, the most famous town in the Wachau, is swathed in the legend of King Richard the Lionheart and has a church in the Baroque style. Back to the boat for lunch. In the afternoon, optional visit to the Abbey of Melk. Atop a rocky outcrop which overlooks the Danube from a height of more than 50 m, it is the symbol of the most complete expression of Baroque Art in Austria. Back on board and departure of the boat around 4.00 pm for Passau. Evening and dinner with the crew.

Day 6: Passau

After breakfast, explore Passau in the company of our hostess. This is a university city, full of music and theatre. In the winding streets you will see its Baroque patrician houses. Lunch on board and cruise to Regensburg. Dinner and accommodation on board.

Day 7: Regensburg - Hilpostein

Breakfast on board. Optional guided tour of Regensburg. The fourth largest city in Bavaria, Ratisbonne is an important industrial centre (BMW, SIEMENS, TRIUMPH). The historic centre nurtures memories accumulated over 2000 years of history. During this time, the boat will sail to Kelheim where we will join it at the end of the morning. Lunch on board. Cruise on the Rhine/Main/Danube canal, inaugurated on 25 September 1992, to Hilpostein. Dinner and accommodation on board.

Day 8: Hilpostein - Nuremberg - Bamberg

Breakfast on board. Arrival in Nuremberg around 9.00 am. Optional tour of the city. Nuremberg seems to come straight out of the Middle Ages. “The little jewel of the Empire”, the old town gathers around the market place: Gothic edifices, half-timbered houses, merchants' residences. During the tour of Nuremberg, the boat will sail to Erlangen. Lunch on board and cruise to Bamberg. Dinner and accommodation on board.

Day 9: Bamberg - Rothenburg

Morning's sailing. Breakfast and lunch on board. Cruise to Schweinfurt. Departure by coach for the optional tour of Rothenurg. A magnificent town perched high on a hill, behind its ramparts huddle picturesque streets lined with half-timbered houses and craft shops. Rothenburg, a “must see” on the Romantics Trail. During this time, the boat will sail to Kitzingen. Continuation of the cruise, dinner and accommodation on board.

Day 10: Wurtzburg - Wertheim

Breakfast on board and optional tour of Wurtzburg (residence of the bishop princes). A town built on the right bank of the Main, Wurtzburg is a wonderful stop on the Romantics Trail. Reflections of the vineyards mingle with the imposing shade of the citadel, a symbol of the power of the Archbishop Princes. During the tour of Wurtzburg, the boat will sail to Karlstad where we will join it at the end of the morning. Lunch on board and cruise to Wertheim. Dinner and accommodation on board.

Day 11: Wertheim - Miltemberg - Aschaffenburg

Breakfast on board. Tour of Miltenberg in the company of our hostess. Explore the market place surrounded by half-timbered houses, the High Street, the former Town Hall. All of them make Miltenberg the pearl of the Main. Lunch on board and cruise to Aschaffenburg. Dinner and accommodation on board.

Day 12: Aschaffenburg - Frankfurt - Mainz

Breakfast on board. Departure of the cruise for Frankfurt. Optional tour of Frankfurt. A place of business, a commercial hub, the mixture of ancient and modern will be bound to surprise you. Back on board for lunch and cruise to Mainz. At the confluence of the Rhine and the Main, sheltering beneath its thousand year old cathedral, Mainz, the city of Gutenberg, is the link between past and present. Arrival at the end of the afternoon. Tour of the city in the company of our hostess. Dinner and gala evening. Accommodation on board.

Day 13: Mainz - Strasbourg (Disembarkation)

Breakfast on board. Aerobics session. Lunch on board and cruise to Strasbourg. We will go through the two biggest locks on the Rhine: Iffezheim and Gambsheim. Arrival in Strasbourg around 2.00 pm. Disembarkation. End of our journey.
