Enjoy views of the Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Orangerie, the Louvre museum and Notre Dame Cathedral. Overnight stopover.
Day 2 : Paris - Vernon
Early start cruising along the Seine passing the futuristic quarter of la Defense with its striking combination of glass and concrete architecture. Lunch on board before stopping off in Conflans Sainte Honorine. Take the opportunity to leave on a sightseeing tour (optional) to the Chateau of Versailles (closed to the public on Mondays) which is among the most famous and prestigious World heritage sites and without doubt the most handsome and complete achievement of 17th century French art -OR , on Mondays, visit (optional) the chateau of Malmaison. Return to the ship around 6.30pm in Mantes la Jolie before continuing on towards Vernon. Dinner on board and overnight stop.
**IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE TOUR TO VERSAILLES**
Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult to book group entrances on a last minute notice.
Therefore, from March 2009 on, we will only offer this tour as a pre-booked tour (not available on board any more), and for a minimum of 35 persons. If we can not offer Versailles (because of a lack of booking), a tour of “Malmaison castle” will be offered instead. Please remember that Versailles is closed on Monday.
Please note that the “Malmaison castle” is closed on Tuesday ; a tour of “Auvers-sur-Oise castle” will be offered instead.
Day 3 : Vernon - Rouen - Caudebec-en-Caux
Early morning start and breakfast while sailing towards Rouen, sailing along Andelys and Amfreville. Lunch while cruising. Arrive in Rouen at around 1.30pm. Leave on a guided tour (optional) of this old town, former capital of Normandy, and visit among others, its fine cathedral, historic quarters and the old market place where Joan of Arc was burned alive at the stake. Return to the ship and sail on to Caudebec en Caux, arriving there in the evening where we stop of briefly to welcome on board a pilot, before cruising on to Honfleur (subject to the tides). Dinner and a gala evening.
Day 4 : Caudebec-en-Caux - Honfleur
Honfleur, our last port of call – arrival times in the port of Honfleur are subject to the tides. Stop off to visit this splendid town which lies at the mouth of the Seine at the point where it flows into the Channel. Join the sightseeing tour (optional) of the town which will take you through the old port which is just as it was in the 17th century. Quay side dwellings were very much sought after in those times, therefore only extremely narrow plots of land were sold. This explains the unusual architecture with tall buildings, sometimes up to 7 floors high! In the background, admire the church of St Catherine which was built in the shape of a ship by local carpenters, entirely out of wood. Lunch on board then on to Deauville on the “Cote Fleurie”. During the second half of the 19th century, Deauville became the hotspot for well to do Parisians and film stars from all over the world. Among its many attractions are the luxury hotels right along the sea front, the casino, marina, horse-racing track, not to mention the old word beach huts.
-Or-
Full day guided tour (lunch included) to the beaches of the Normandy landings (only as a pre-booked tour and a minimum of 30 participants). Departure by coach to reach Pointe du Hoc passing the towns of Omaha Beach, Coleville sur Mer and its American cemetery. After lunch, we stop in Arromanches to watch the film “The Price of Liberty”.
Return to the ship in Honfleur for dinner and a free evening.
Day 5 : Honfleur (Disembarkation)
Last breakfast before disembarking at around 9:00am. End of a memorable cruise.
