Detailed Itinerary:

DAY 1: LYON (Embarkation Day)

Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6:00 p.m. After comfortably settling into your cabins, meet the crew at a welcome cocktail. We'll introduce our hiking program before dinner followed by an evening of entertainment.

DAY 2: LYON - CHAVANAY

This morning, we'll cruise through the Rhône Valley towards Chavanay, passing Givors, Vienne and Condrieu at the foot of the Côtes Rôties vineyards.

Hikers' program: Hiking in the Pilat Mountain Range. We’ll discover amazing vistas from the granite ledge set high above the Rhône river and facing the Alps as we hike through this beautiful mountain range. Departing from Malleval, our loop will take us from the Saut de Lorette waterfall to the Batalon gorge and along paths that border the mountains, allowing for beautiful viewpoints on the Rhône. (Length 2 hours 45 minutes, 7 km (4.4 miles), with around 200 m (656 feet) of elevation gain)

Non-hikers' program: Tour of Chavanay followed by a wine-tasting session at a cellar.

The evening is free to do as you please.

DAY 3: CHAVANAY - AVIGNON

We'll spend this morning cruising. Join us for a guided tour on foot of Avignon followed by free time to discover this beautiful city at your own pace. Enjoy an evening of traditinal folk entertainment.

DAY 4: AVIGNON - ARLES - VIVIERS

We'll cruise towards Arles.

Hikers' program: Hike in the Alpilles and Les Baux de Provence. The Alpilles are a small chain of limestone hills, probably the most famous and the most visited in Provence, thanks to Van Gogh, Cézanne and other Impressionist painters. (Length 2 to 2½ hours, distance of 5 km (3 miles), with about 150 m (492 feet) of elevation gain).

Non-hikers' program: Tour of Les Baux de Provence.

In the afternoon, we'll set out by coach for our excursion trough the Camargue. Tonight's our gala evening and dinner.

DAY 5: VIVIERS

We’ll reach in Viviers early in the morning

Hikers' program: Hike in the Nature Reserve of the Ardèche Gorges. All those who love walking in the great outdoors will surely be enchanted by the Ardèche Gorges, with their quite unique and wondrous scenery, combined with amazing, breathtaking views. (Length 2 hours, 6 km (3.75 miles), with around 250 m (656 feet) of elevation gain)

Non-hikers' program: Tour of the Madeleine Cave.

This afternoon, join us for a guided tour on foot of Viviers. We'll cruise towards Vienne. Enjoy an evening of entertainment.

DAY 6: VIENNE - LYON

Enjoy one last buffet breakfast on board while we reach Vienne. Join us on a guided tour on foot of the city. We'll cruise towards Lyon and enjoy lunch on board before disembarking at 3:00 p.m. End of our services.

Hiking : difficultys, level 2

Level
The hikes that are proposed during this cruise are little half-day strolls (2 to 3 h walking), implying few changes in altitude (around 150 to 300 m). Along the hike, you get the chance to see and discover some natural or cultural areas which are on your cruise’s programme. The durations stipulated in our programmes are given as a rough guide and do not take the breaks into consideration. No athlete’s training is necessary for these hikes, but you should be in good shape and rested to fully enjoy this cruise.

Your equipment

Backpack
It is essential to bring a backpack (max 30L) in which you can put what is necessary for a hike: sweater, raincoat, picnic, flask of water and solar protection.
It is important, for your comfort and pleasure during the hike, to choose a good backpack. You should take a good-sized and sturdy bag with padded braces and a strong and waterproof fabric. There will be no porterage.

Shoes
First of all, good shoes should not hurt you and should be comfortable. You should try your shoes and use them a little before leaving, it is important that you feel comfortable wearing them.
Without taking into consideration the difficulty of the hike, the sole should always be of a good quality that is to say that they should be well sewed and not slippery on a wet or damaged ground. You should prefer ankle boots with softened soles in order to avoid malleolus, back- and joints traumatisms.

Clothes
The equipment for a hike should necessarily include
• More or less warm underclothes depending on the planned hike
• Light quick-drying trousers
• Warm sweater or fleece jacket
• Cape for the rain or raincoat
• Hat or cap
• Thin gloves and a bonnet for the beginning and the end of the season

Equipment
Do not forget to bring:
• Sunglasses
• Sunscreen cream
• Small personal first-aid kit (refer to following paragraph)
• Flask
• Toilet paper
• Folding knife
• Telescopic sticks for those who are used to use them (recommend for the Douro and Croatia cruise)

Pharmacy
Your guide will have a first-aid kit for each hike.
It is yet compulsory to bring a personal first-aid kit, different in according with the destination, which will at least include:
• Plastic strip
• “Twinfaces”
• Analgesic
• If necessary, mosquito lotion
• Collyrium
• Intestinal antiseptic…
… and your personal medicines if you undergo a treatment.

Advisements:

  • A valid passport is required for travel. Passports must be valid at least 6 months after the last day of travel.
  • Please check visa requirements with your local consulate(s); responsibility for obtaining visas rests with the traveler.
  • For reasons of navigation and passenger safety, the cruise operator and the Captain of the ship reserve the right to modify the itinerary of the cruise .
