Unlike the mighty Rhine River, with
its big cities and unlimited tourist venues, the
Moselle River is situated in a more tranquil corner of
Germany where beautiful flower-laden towns offer a more
relaxed atmosphere for visitors. On a Moselle River Cruise, the most interesting
sites for tourists lie along a 200 kilometer stretch of
this meandering river from Koblenz, located at the
junction of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers, to the ancient
Roman city of Trier, found near the German border with
Luxembourg. The steep slopes of the Moselle River Valley
produce some of the finest German white wines. On many
summer weekends, you will discover wine festivals complete
with brass bands where the local inhabitants are often
dressed in period costumes. The most scenic portion of a Moselle River cruise is the 75 kilometer stretch between Cochem
and Bernkastel-Kues where ancient castles are often seen
perched high atop the hills overlooking well-manicured
vineyards as far as the eye can see. For anyone who loves
Germany, the Moselle River Valley is a must see. |
