Detailed Itinerary: Budapest to Tokaj (BUT)
Day 1: Budapest (Embarkation)
Boarding in Budapest between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm. Settling into your cabin. Welcome cocktail, presentation of the crew. Dinner on board. Free evening or optional tour of Budapest by night. Overnight stopover.
Day 2: Budapest - Mohacs
Breakfast on board. Morning devoted to the optional guided tour of Budapest. Explore this amazing city. The course of the Danube cuts it in two, dividing this metropolis into two entities: Buda with its hills and valleys and Pest with its flat plain, whose panoramic view over the banks of the Danube is listed as part of the world's cultural heritage by UNESCO. Back on board. Lunch. In the afternoon, optional guided tour of the royal castle of Gödöllö. This magnificent castle, constructed by Count Antal Grassalkovich, was the favourite summer residence of the Austrian empress, “Sissi”. Dinner on board and departure of the cruise for Mohacs, the most southerly city on the Danube in the country.
Day 3: Mohacs - Bezdan - Novi Sad
Breakfast on board. Departure from Mohacs for the optional visit to Pécs by coach. The regional centre of southern Hungary and birthplace of the painter, Victor Vasarely. Explore the main square, the cathedral and the Roman remains. This 2000 year old city, at the foot of the Mecsek mountains, with its Mediterranean climate and atmosphere, has been a bishopric since 1009. Back on board, lunch. Continuation of the cruise to Bezdan, border between Hungary and Croatia (customs check). And then onwards to Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia). Dinner on board and overnight stopover.
Day 4: Novi Sad - Titel - Kanjiza
After breakfast, departure by coach for the optional excursion to Novi Sad. The city is situated in the southern part of the Great Plain in the region of Baga on the left bank of the Danube. Optional tour of the city with views of Petrovaradin castle. Back on board at the end of the morning. Departure of the cruise at 12.30 am. Lunch on board. We will be taking the Tisza – the great Hungarian river- and will discover its unforgettable landscapes. Dinner and an evening's entertainment on board. Sailing to Kanjiza. Overnight stopover.
Day 5: Kanjiza - Szeged
Breakfast during the cruise. Across the border at Kanjiza and customs check. Arrival around 8:00am in Szeged, “the sunlit city” and the largest city on the Great Hungarian Plain. It is situated where two rivers meet: the Tisza and the Maros. Optional guided tour of the city, famous for its summer festival on the Cathedral square (from mid July to mid August) and the park on the main square. Stroll in the pedestrian street and along the banks of the Tisza. You will have some free time to visit the Pick salami and paprika museum in Szeged and discover the manufacturing process of this salami famous around the world since 1869. Full board on the boat. Free evening, overnight stopover.
Day 6: Szeged – Csongrad - Szolnok
Departure early in the morning. We will reach Csongrad around 7:00am. Breakfast on board. At 8:00 am departure for the excursion to Opusztaszer (no charge), a park which commemorates the country's history. The richness of the open air ethnographic collection is extraordinary. Among other things, you will discover: a farm which produces paprika, a school from the farming region, a blacksmith's workshop and a cartwright's workshop, a cart demonstration, a fisherman's house. All of which offer a faithful presentation of the way of life on the Alföld plain in the 19th century. A visit too to the famous “panoramic painting” which portrays the conquest of the Carpathian basin by the “Magyars”, a painting commissioned for the Hungarian millennium exhibition in 1896 by Arpad Feszty. Back on board in Csongrad. Lunch and departure of the cruise. An afternoon's sailing through the Great Southern Plain, “a landscape as flat as the sea”. The river brings life to the sandy landscape and provides the fish for the fish soup which is the speciality of the region. It is in this part of the country that the sun shines the longest. We will then reach Szolnok, the North of the Great Plain. Dinner on board. Arrival in Szolnok in the evening. Overnight stopover.
Day 7: Szolnok – Tiszafured The Tisza Lake
Departure early in the morning. Breakfast during the cruise. Sailing between lake and river. The magical beauty of unspoilt nature will surprise us. A little paradise at the very centre of the so-called Alföld plain, the second largest expanse of water in the country. Lunch on board. Arrival around 2.00 pm in Tiszafüred, a marina surrounded by nature, a part of the lake loved for its peacefulness. Lunch on board. Departure for the optional excursion to Hortobagy. This is one of the expanses of prairie called “puszta”, among the largest in Europe (more than 1400 km²). The territory of Hortobagy National Park covers 82,000 hectares, classed since 1999 as a world cultural heritage site. It abounds with incomparable curiosities and treasures in the heart of Europe. Back on board in Tiszafüred. Dinner on board, followed by an evening's entertainment. Overnight stopover.
Day 8: Tiszafured - Tokaj
Departure for Tokaj early in the morning. Breakfast during the cruise. Arrival around 2:00 pm. Tokaj rises on the summit of a loess outcrop which extends into the Great Hungarian Plain. The historic wine-making region of Tokaj has been supplying its “tokaji aszu” dessert wine to the world for 450 years. Explore the place in the company of our hostess. This charming village with its old buildings and its thick stone walls is also blessed with a number of beautiful Baroque edifices which punctuate the streets of the village. Optional visit to a vineyard followed by a wine tasting in the famous Rakoczi cellar, a natural lair for the ageing of Tokaj wines. Back on board. Gala dinner followed by an evening of dancing. Overnight stopover.
Day 9: Tokaj (Disembarkation)
Breakfast on board before disembarking. End of your services.

Day 3: Tiszafured – Csongrad

Day 4: Csongrad – Csanytelek – Szeged
Breakfast on board. At 8:00am, departure by coach for the excursion to Opusztaszer (included), a park which commemorates the country's history. The richness of the open air ethnographic collection is extraordinary. Among other things, you will discover: a farm that produces paprika, a school from the farming region, a blacksmith's workshop and a cartwright's workshop, a cart demonstration, a fisherman's house… All of them provide a very faithful representation of the way of life on the Alföld plain in the 19th century. Dinner and evening on a Hungarian theme. Overnight stopover.
Day 5: Szeged – Kanizsa – Novi Sad
Breakfast. Free time in Szeged, during which you will have the opportunity to visit the Pick salami and paprika museum and discover the process for making this salami known throughout the world since 1869. Back on board for lunch and departure of the cruise. Through customs and customs check in Kanizsa. We are now in Serbia. An afternoon's sailing through the Great Southern Plain. The river tirelessly reveals its hidden treasures, its unique heritage. Dinner and gala evening. Arrival in Novi Sad during the night.
Day 6: Novi Sad
Breakfast on board. Novi Sad is situated in the southern part of the Great Plain in the region of Baga on the left bank of the Danube. Morning devoted to the optional tour of the town. Back to the boat for lunch. We will continue the cruise through Serbia. Full catering on board.
Day 7: Bezdan - Mohacs
Breakfast on board. Through customs and customs check. The border between Serbia and Hungary. At 8:00hhrs, departure from Mohacs by coach for the optional guided tour of Pécs. The course of the Danube cuts it in two, dividing this metropolis into two entities: Buda with its hills and valleys and Pest with its flat plain, whose panoramic view over the banks of the Danube is listed as part of the world's cultural heritage by UNESCO. Free time. In the afternoon, optional visit to Gödöllö castle, the largest Baroque castle in Hungary, surrounded by a 28-hectare park, where you can explore the history of the Grassalkowich family and the royal apartments of Franz Joseph and Queen Elisabeth. Back to the boat for dinner. In the evening, optional tour of Budapest by night.
Day 9: Budapest (Disembarkation)
Breakfast on board before disembarking. End of our journey.
