Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Lyon (Embarkation)

Boarding around 6.00pm in Lyon, at Claude Bernard Quay. After settling into your cabins, meet the crew over a welcome cocktail in the lounge before dinner in the on-board restaurant. After dinner entertainment is provided in the lounge bar. We moor for the night.

Day 2: Lyon - Macon

After breakfast on board, we set off by coach for this morning’s optional excursion – a guided visit of Lyon. Here we have the chance to learn about France’s second city, wonderfully situated at the confluence of the Rhone and Saône rivers. We return on board for lunch as the boat sets off towards Macon. This afternoon is an ideal opportunity to relax on board and admire the scenery as we cruise through the beautiful Burgundy countryside. We have dinner as we cruise, followed by an evening of dancing and entertainment. We reach Macon during the evening and moor here for the night.

Day 3: Macon - Vienne

After breakfast on board, we set off by coach for our optional excursion to visit the Abbey at Cluny. The Benedictine Abbey extended its influence throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. The church here was the largest in all of western Christendom. We return on board in time for lunch and set sail again, heading for Vienne. We have dinner and an evening of entertainment on board as we cruise, arriving in Vienne towards the end of the evening. We moor for the night.

Day 4: Vienne - Avignon

After breakfast on board, we set off for our optional visit of Vienne. The history of Vienne dates back some 2000 years and we are lucky enough to see the relics left by the Romans as well as the cathedral of St Maurice, all listed Historic Monuments. We return on board for lunch and the boat sets off again to Avignon. This afternoon is yet another opportunity to relax on board and admire the scenery as we cruise down the Rhone, or take part in the fun and games proposed by our on-board entertainments crew. We have dinner and an evening of entertainment on board as we cruise, continuing our journey through the night.

Day 5: Avignon - Arles

We arrive early morning in Avignon and have breakfast on board. This morning’s optional excursion is a visit of the City of the Popes and the Papal Palace, a true fortress set high on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by city walls. The palace is a major feat of Gothic architecture dating from the 14th century and the formal residence of the sovereign pontiffs. We return on board for lunch as we set sail again on the short journey to Arles, where we arrive early afternoon. We set off this afternoon on an optional excursion through the Camargue, this huge nature reserve where the sea and marshland are inhabited by an amazing array of water fowl and birds. We have free time in the delightful town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a remarkable twice-yearly pilgrimage centre for gypsies from all over Europe, with an interesting fortified church. We return on board for dinner, after which we are treated to a Provençal Folklore evening on board. We moor for the night.

Day 6: Arles - Viviers

After breakfast on board, we set off for our optional visit of Arles. With its Roman treasures and artistic legacy, Arles has a glorious heritage. After our visit, we head into the country or arrière pays where we learn about how Provençal olive oil is made. We return on board for lunch as we set sail again in the direction of Viviers. We spend the afternoon afloat, before we have dinner on board. This evening we are entertained by the crew before arriving in Viviers. We moor for the night.

Day 7: Viviers - Tain L'Hermitage - Lyon

After breakfast on board, we set off for our optional visit of Viviers and discover this open-air museum – a medieval city which also happens to be home to the smallest cathedral in France. We return on board for lunch and the boat sets sail again. We spend the afternoon cruising, arriving in Tain l’Hermitage late afternoon. We have the opportunity to join an optional wine tasting in one of the fine wine cellars, where we can taste some of the famous Côtes du Rhone wines. We return on board after our visit. This evening we have a Gala Dinner on board, followed by an evening of dancing and entertainment. We moor for most of the night.

Day 8: Lyon (Disembarkation)

A very early start as we cruise towards Lyon, having breakfast before arriving in the city around 9.00am. We disembark here in Lyon. End of our services.
